Great British Lunchbox

The Great British Lunchbox Team Building Programme

Looking for a team development exercise which is uniquely different and challenges both team dynamics as well as your teams business and creative skills? Well this is it! The Great British Lunchbox is an exciting, innovative and extremely challenging multi-dimensional team development exercise, which will draw on, and test, a broad range of business, sales, marketing and creative skills.

The Great British Lunch Box requires effective planning, time management, communication, leadership and delegation. Your team will be provided with a verbal & written Quest brief, a range of culinary equipment (plus shared access to a qualified chef), some design materials and colour printing facilities, internet access and a specified budget.

The objective of the exercise is simple! Teams have to develop, design, source, cook/prepare and present their own version of a themed ‘Great British Lunch Box’ e.g. a healthy eating lunchbox for school kids, an executive lunchbox for the business executive on the go, or an organic lunchbox.

To be successful teams will have to decide on an appropriate brand name that links their product to their specific target audience e.g. Banquet in a Box or Desktop Deli. The Teams will source ingredients and materials from local suppliers using a specified budget; cook / prepare the food; design prototype packaging and prepare accurate food labelling and product costs, and all within the exercise time limit. In addition, the team will have to complete a series of inter-linked parallel tasks including: preparing and presenting a high quality sales pitch, point of sale promotions, & concept boards for an appropriate advert / TV commercial campaign.

The performance of the teams will be assessed against set criteria and through peer review of each team’s pitches and presentations. The programme is preceded with appropriate team ice breakers and concluded by a full reflective learning review.

NB: The specific content of this programme is flexible and is in part dependant on the available venue and facilities and access to local shops / suppliers which will be researched prior to the programme.

Alternative Options

The following programmes can be run with a similar format and key learning outcomes, or combined with the Great British Lunchbox giving teams more options to choose from. Both of these alternatives will require a venue with access to more extensive food preparation / cooking facilities.

Big Breakfast

See more information about this programme here.

Ready Meals 2 Go

Another alternative or option is for teams to develop Ready Meals for people on the go. Again teams will be expected to identify a specific niche market and move through the whole process of meal design to point of sale presentations.
