Corporate Competition Training Programme
This was the first in a series of corporate competition training weekends which was attended by sixty people down in the New Forest.
The programme kicked off with an introductory stage on Friday evening during which teams answered various questions to gain construction material which they then had to use to build a model of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai.
Training Workshops
During the day on Saturday teams rotated between four different training workshops; one on navigation, one on construction, one on mountain biking and one of canoeing and solving puzzles.
Each workshop had both a theoretical and a practical side to them which saw teams putting into practice what they had learnt.
Later that evening teams set out on a night navigation stage, navigating themselves around parts of the Forest in an attempt to locate and visit various activities.
This was challenging for most of the teams, not least because it was dark, but also because of the large number of poorly marked paths and tracks in the Forest.
A Voyage Of Discovery
On Sunday the teams set out on bikes on a Voyage of Discovery around the New Forest where they had a number of concurrent activities to complete. Choosing an effective strategy was key to success.
One team had their orienteering map orientated upside down and lost a lot of time searching for checkpoints in totally the wrong part of the Forest.
Teams were allowed to split into two to maximise the use of their time. However, this proved costly for one team as half their team ran off with the material required by the other half of their team to complete the construction exercise.
But all returned to the finish, having enjoyed the stage and having learnt from their mistakes.
