Over the course of a dynamic weekend, Quest has once again executed a team building event for the hundreds. Working with one of the world’s biggest insurers, the 9th Team Walk Challenge took place at Elveden Centre Parcs. To the confusion of many, this year’s theme was Pointless. No, not as in a futile event, but the popular BBC One TV show!

The Concept - Charity Team Build

The most significant aspect of the Team Walk Challenge has been to promote and raise money for a charity. The British Red Cross, founded in 1870, has had a profound effect all across the UK and was the subject of this year’s fundraising. However, as well as the tangible results seen at the end of the event, it has enabled the convergence of employees from all over the business. There were meetings, greetings, laughter, and an overall sense of unity shared from those who have come year after year, as well as those who were new to the experience.

The Walk and Challenges

As with many years previous, the event is stripped back from the buzz of modern day and built around a simple scenic rural walk. Along the course are many checkpoints to be found, allowing the teams to unlock and collect points. Further points could be won through challenges and quizzes themed around the Red Cross and Pointless TV show. Individuals were tested on their knowledge of pointless answers for cityscapes, film characters and famous historical deaths. Therefore, both physical and mental tasks allowed the opportunity for all team members to participate. A huge amount of effective communication and trust was needed to successfully complete the day. After some time to relax, a drinks reception and three course meal was laid out to be followed by a presentation summarising the event and results.

The positive outcome of this event, can be seen by the new relationships formed across the company, both for friendships and networking opportunities. The event caters for all levels, allowing a tough competition for some and a fun leisurely activity for others. The winners of the Adventure Challenge, ‘Beer and Bits’, had entered previously and came very close second last year, so to see their strong performance pushing them to win this year was great to see. The additional contribution to the wider community through charitable team work can only label this event as a success! Far from Pointless indeed.
