The Quest Team

Janice has been an associate part of The Quest Team for the past eight years as one of our key facilitators / coaches for high level team development and leadership skills.

Janice graduated from UWIST with a degree in English Literature and joined British Home Stores as a graduate management trainee in HR. After seven years Janice had progressed to the top of her profession within that organisation and was HR manager of the company’s flagship store in Milton Keynes.

In 1991 Janice joined the Scott’s Hospitality Group as HR manager in one of their hotels in the West Country. In that role Janice took on increasing responsibilities for training and development. In 1992 Scott’s moved from Holiday Inn and took on the UK Marriott Hotels Franchise. At the end of that year Janice was selected by Marriott Hotels to join their International Training Team and delivered programmes in the USA and across Europe.

Following a career break to start a family Janice started her own company Leeward Training and Facilitation, delivering training and development programmes. Initially this focused on the hospitality sector, but in the past eight years has expanded into the construction and financial services / banking industries, in addition to working increasingly with Quest. Janice is qualified to deliver MBTI Step l and Step ll & MBTI Teams, and is also qualified from Oxford Brookes University as a Business Coach and Mentor. In sixteen years in the business Janice has earned an impressive reputation for her highly energetic, effective and business centric programmes and delivery.

Daniel is the most recent member of The Quest Team. He joined the company in 2008 from Imperial College, London where after graduating he went on to do some contract work and a PhD in structural geology.

Whilst at university Daniel undertook a number of expeditions to some of the more remote parts of the world. Having made attempts on unclimbed 6000m+ mountains in the Indian Himalaya and Bolivian Andes, Daniel went on to organise and lead a succession of expeditions which saw him, together with other students, make an unsupported crossing of the Greenland ice cap, summit several unclimbed peaks up to 6450m in central Tibet and construct a 37m span suspended footbridge across the North Rukuru River in Northern Malawi.

Daniel has a wealth of knowledge and experience from both competing in adventure races and managing different types of student events, which he will use to benefit Quest. In 2006 he won the questars series in the first full season in which he competed in questars races.

Daniel has a passion for the great outdoors what ever the weather! He regularly takes part in a range of mountain sports from climbing to skiing, and he is a keen runner with a sub three hour marathon personal best.

Richard is one of the original partners who formed Quest in 1995, and brings a wealth of knowledge in training and management, both with people, and also large key accounts. His development and training background is extensive, and he has gained invaluable experience in working in many different teams and organisations.

He enjoyed four years with military teams in the infantry with 1st Battalion The Wessex Regiment; and during ten years with LloydsTSB he was responsible for the creation of a formal induction and initial training package for all newly recruited sales and account managers. That responsibility included the training and on-going development across all of the sales areas in the Card Services Division.

During four years with Schlumberger Richard achieved significant success, once again in the training and development of sales and account management staff, as well as building strong and highly remunerative relationships with all of the UK’s 'big four' banks in the integrated circuit cards purchasing areas. The culmination of his time with Schlumberger was the achievement of steering a major banking account into a position of highest revenue earning customer for all of Schlumberger’s Mobile Communications and Banking customers in early 2004.

He is a keen dinghy sailor, fell walker and runner and ran the London Marathon in 2001, 2002 and 2008.

David was a regular customer of Quest’s team development services during the last ten years of his twenty year career with LloydsTSB and valued this activity so highly that he joined Quest in 2004.

After graduating from Durham University with a 1st class honours degree in geography, David joined LTSB’s accelerated management development programme. He held various senior positions there, most recently directing major change programmes. In the late 1990s he was responsible for the national rollout across the UK of all activities to support the newly merged LloydsTSB brand, a huge logistical exercise involving the re-badging, unifying and harmonisation of over 3000 sites, it even required a private Act of Parliament.

In his last role as Director, Group Business Transformation he invested over £0.5 billion in change activities across the UK and overseas. That enabled the achievement of sustainable efficiencies and radically reshaped both the cost base and customer offering.

He has extensive practical experience of general management and the designing and implementation of major change initiatives. He has a particular enthusiasm for the people side of change and expertise in assisting teams and individuals to realise their potential and unlock their discretionary energy.

David initiated LloydsTSB’s participation in the Microsoft UK Challenge inter-company team event in 1993 leading their first team, and starting LTSB’s growing involvement in subsequent years. He competed again in 2002 and was part of the LTSB winning team, and now leads Quest’s training programme for corporate teams entering this type of highly developmental activity.

A keen orienteer and adventure racer with wide experience and love of many outdoor activities, he has a passion for the creative enjoyment of the outdoors.

Martyn is one of the original partners who formed Quest in 1995. At that time he was working in London for LloydsTSB in a training and coaching capacity.  In 1997 he resigned from the bank to dedicate all his energies full time to the expansion of Quest.

Martyn gained his degree from Manchester University in Management Science. Prior to studying for his degree he spent several years working in the hospitality industry which included twelve months with the illustrious Savoy Group of hotels as a trainee manager. It was during this period that he learned the importance of providing the highest quality customer service.

He also gained six years extremely valuable military experience serving with 10th Battalion The Parachute Regiment.

Martyn is a real enthusiast for the outdoors and all the exciting activities it has to offer.

He is a keen offshore yachtsman and has completed several ocean crossings including the North Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Another of Martyn’s passions includes travelling in some of the worlds more remote locations and over the years he has travelled extensively in Africa, South America, the Indian Subcontinent and Asia.

Over the years he has experienced being a part of many different teams in a lot of diverse environments including small intense crews crossing various seas and oceans, military teams, sporting teams and large corporate teams. He is now part of the passionate and dynamic team that is Quest.
